The Route

This row starts from La Gomera in the Canary Isles and concludes in English Harbour Antigua 2600nm away.  Since the first Atlantic Rowing Race this extreme sporting event has taken its place among the ultimate adventures and tests of mental and physical endurance.

The crew will initially push south through the acceleration zone and clearing the islands before turning west and making the push to Antigua.  The exact route will be decided at the start depending on the weather and currents - to go the shorter great circle route (the direct line) or use the currents and winds that are found further to the south - a longer but potentially faster route.

The record will be more than just rowing hard but a combination of rowing, route selection, reaction to situations and a degree of luck with the weather.
